Trick or Treating (or, We Are Old)

Every year, the South end of Lee Street in Old Town goes NUTS for Halloween. Pumpkins, ghosts, and skeletons are child's play. They've got coffins, gravestones, fog machines, music, eyeballs, spider webs, the whole works. It's awesome. Especially in the dark. JVL and I have walked it at night every year, and it is wall to wall -- kids trick-or-treating, parents/homeowners drinking. It's so much fun. Hip-cool for the grown-ups and just the right amount of sensory overload for the kids.

Well, since Cody can't really make it past 7 pm, we decided to walk it before dinner. It had a different feel, to say the least. The only other people out were...parents with infants. Most of them crying, because it was close to dinner/bedtime.

Cody was calm, but kept giving us reproachful looks as if to say, "Hey. What's with the paws? I can't get to my thumb. Are you two done indulging yourselves yet?"

Um, no.

Happy Halloween!

Trick or Treat

Happy Halloween!!

Cody is almost never awake for Friday Night Parties, so we've instituted a Friday Morning Tradition -- breakfast and reading at Buzz. Well, we try to read the paper, and he sits and plays with his toys and "reads" his you-can-eat-it-too! book.

As you can see, Cody is concerned with current affairs and reaches for the WSJ...

You can see where this is going...

Mission accomplished. Gives a whole new meaning to "digesting the news."

BOO!

The Polar Express

Today Cody got to put on the long-awaited Halloween costume his Aunt Monika bought for him...well, way before he was born. Possibly before he was conceived. She was just really, really excited about the possibility of a niece or nephew. Halloween came not a moment too soon, because he is almost bursting out of it. I know I'm biased, but I think this officially makes him the cutest kid ever.

This one looks like a pre-hibernation yawn:

Then we went to Buzz for the annual BOOFEST! CJP was too little to do any of the activities, but he kind of served as an activity himself -- because everyone got immense amusement out of watching him jump and giggle.

Here he is with Paige, one of his favorite baristas, and then Sully, who manages Buzz and with whom Cody flirts mercilessly every chance he gets:

Flying high...

And now, ready for a nap. : ) First Halloweens can take a lot out of a little bear.

Well, THAT was easy!!

I take it back!!! I take it ALL BACK!!!

Holy crap!! YAY PHILLIES!! YAY CODY!!! He is our good luck charm, just like Kelly was for the '86 Mets.

Here's the real test: Can he help McCain pull it out? : )

GO PHILLIES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The Beekeeper

Thank you Granny for my bee! I played with him all day.

It's Always Sunny Raining in Philadelphia

Well, we knew it couldn't last. Poor Cody is still excited about the Series, but as you can tell the excitement is tinged with anxiety. Because the Phillies can't win. When the rain started falling, we knew it was just a matter of time before that great wheel of fate turned inexorably away from a Philadelphia triumph. Again. But it's good for Cody to learn these lessons early. He can get some calluses on his little heart. After they lose tonight, and then again in Tampa, he will eventually recover, and understand, as his Dad says, that it's just destiny asserting itself, and order will at least be returned to the universe.

Swan Lake

Cody meets a new friend. Who is much bigger than he is.

Best Brunch Ever

We had a GREAT weekend with Aunt Mary Beth and Uncle Walter. We had a fantastic brunch in Spring Lake, which Jetty thoroughly enjoyed. He had the profound excitement of sitting in a booster seat for the first time, and discovered the joys of banging stuff on the table and squealing. Eventually he got passed around to everyones' laps.

He had such a great time he decided to pick up the check...

...and eat it.

Thank you Mary Beth and Walter for a fabulous, decadent brunch! : )

P.S. Cody loved the booster seat so much that we re-created it for him at Mary Beth and Walter's table. Uncle Walter provided the phone book, and we strapped Jetty in with JVL's belt. He thought it was AWESOME and loved being part of the group. : )

Loving Aunt Monika

Why Can't Us?

Bride Visited

Today we went to a wedding to see Heather, one of JVL's oldest friends from his Governor's School days, as a beautiful bride. Congratulations Heather and Jeff!!

When we arrived, the whole crowd was clapping for the bride and groom's first dance. Cody naturally thought everyone was clapping for him.

First Cody tried to grab her teeth, then her pearls. We were grateful he stopped there.

And here's Cody with Daddy, having a great time as usual. And searching for mischief just around the corner...
