Friday morning, as we were cuddling in Cody's chair, wayyyyy too early to be considered any sort of respectable hour:
Me: "So are you just having trouble sleeping?"
Cody: "No. I am just ready to get up. (Pause) Jesus is up on my cross!" (He's not.)
Me: "He is?"
Cody: "Yes. He loves me. He takes care of me! He helped me sleep! But now He says it is time to get up, so I am going to get up and take Jesus to Home Depot and buy him a new shop vacuum. And then we will go shopvac the garage together, like best buddies."
Yesterday, as I was trying to sneak a bite of the pastry JVL brought home for him:
Me: "Codes, can I have a bite?"
Cody: "No, Mommy. This cake is only for toddlers. It's Toddler Cake. And you are a grown-up, not a toddler, so you can't take any of my bites."
Me: "Ok. Well, I guess I'll just have a drink of water."
Cody: "You should do that. It is important for you to stay hydrated."
Then, JVL said, "Buddy, I have been at work so much this week. I've missed you so much." And Cody, trying to make sure he didn't feel bad, replied, "I missed you too Daddy! But don't worry. I didn't miss you SO much. But I missed you a little bit!"
And yesterday, spotting the moon on our way to Babies R Us in the morning:
Cody: "Mom! There's the MOON! It's still up!"
Me: "What?! Moon, you're supposed to be sleeping! What is the moon doing up during the day?"
Cody, very seriously: "Mommy, I think the sun got lonely. (Wonewy.) And so the moon decided to get up and go to keep him company. He is so kind."
Yes, he is.
