15 Months of Joy

Emma had her 15-month checkup this week, and she's been declared "totally perfect" by the doctor. Just, well, tiny. Still only 19 pounds. But she's on the chart! :) She's so much littler than Cody at this age (25 pounds and 33 inches). I have to go look up CML's stats…but this is what she looked like (and a great blast from the past; ah, how little has changed). She's 30 inches long and her head's in the 50th percentile (Cody was 99th, ha). The irony of how long and often I nursed her, and yet!

She's got probably 75 words, at least. She had the pediatrician in stitches with her observations, conversation, and occasional demands: "Chair! Sit! Down please!" The doc said at 18 months, they're looking for about 5 words. So yeah, we're doing fine. Her vocabulary is somewhat random: she can easily say "pillow" and "vroom" and "toothbrush" but Cordelia has been shortened to "Dee Dee!" "Bagel," somewhat confusingly, comes out as "Bolo." It took me a whole morning to figure out what she was asking for. "BOLO! BITE! BOOOLLLOOOO!!!" Her c's come out as t's — so "Cody" comes out not "CoCo" but "Toto." Cody's not wild about that and it's an effort for her, so she has just decided to start calling him … wait for it … "Buddy!" It's just about the most darling thing I've ever heard.

Cordelia came along "to give my sister comfort when she gets her MEAN SHOTS" and was a great help. (Yes. She picked out her own outfit.)

Emma Elisabeth is doing just great, and is as sweet-tempered as ever. (The shots were rough on her little body this time around, but she's back to herself now.)

Below are some of my favorites: one of the craziest times of the week is just after C&C's swim lessons, when I am trying to get them dried, peeled out of their suits, and dressed in a crowded locker room, without losing track of E or having her slip and fall. She came up with an innovative solution the week before last.

(You can always tell a Milford man. SD, that's just for you.)
Here's E on the ride home from NC, just before the howling started: she's got Flopsy and Stella. Never leave him without 'em.
One of her first words was "espresso."

This is from yesterday. "MARKET! CART. RIDE! VROOM! SIT? NO!"
