Let The Great Experiment…BEGIN!

For a variety of reasons, after having decided to keep Emma home one more year, when a spot opened up last week in Mrs. Benzi's room, we decided to try sending her to morning preschool. I mean, doesn't she look ready? : )

She started yesterday at 8:30 a.m. Around 3:30, Mom calls me…

What Mom Said: "Hey Shay! How is your day? Boy — you can really tell Emma is the third child!"

What Mom Meant: "Hey Shay! WHERE THE HELL ARE THE PICTURES OF EMMA ON HER FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL? WHY HAVEN'T YOU CALLED TO UPDATE ME? I KNOW YOU ARE BUSY AND ALL BUT PUT PICTURES ON THE DAMN BLOG PLEASE! WHAT, ARE YOU BUSY OR SOMETHING? HOW BUSY COULD YOU POSSIBLY BE? DO YOU NOT UNDERSTAND GRANNY HAS NEEDS?!"

Day one went pretty well. She was so excited to get there! She didn't cry, or even look back.

Here she is saying, "Two thumbs up!" right by her little hook. :)

Until about 3 minutes after this, when she crash landed in the mulch, came running to me for comfort, and I hadn't left yet…so she spent 20 minutes wailing, but then calmed down and had a good morning (or so I am told). Today was a little easier. She did sob all the way there that she wanted to stay home with me instead (knife, meet gut — now twist), but once we got there she peed, took a deep breath, and sat on Cordelia's lap in the circle. She was a brave little toaster and said, with quivering lip, "Mommy? I promise I am going to have a GREAT DAY and I will SEE YOU SOON!"

She was happy to come home and get back in her real uniform, though.

Not to be confused with her other uniform.

Love my little girl. My big girl. No, my baby girl. Always.

Thank you, Shay. I am contented now .... for a few days until I need another update. Please tell Emma I am so proud of her. Tell the big guys that they are doing a great job helping Emma at Cardinal and we will see ALL of them on Grandparents Day!

I love that she still sleeps with the hospital blanket we held her in in the first days of her life! And, Emma's legs are my favorite thing.
