Yesterday…

Cordelia: Mom! I am SO MAD at Cody for being SO MEAN to me that I'm trying to figure out what mean thing I can do to get him back!

Me: That's so hard. I know you're upset and frustrated. But we just came from church, so maybe instead we should try to think about how Jesus might want us to handle this anger.

Cordelia: He would want me to get back at Cody.

Me: Actually — one of the most challenging things that Jesus asks us is to be kind to those who hurt us. He even asks us to pray for them, instead of looking for ways to take revenge.

Cordelia: I don't think so, Mom. I'm pretty sure He never said anything like that, because it makes no sense.

Me: Well…I know it's definitely not something that comes easy. But I can promise you He said it.

Cordelia, suspicious: Where did He say it?

Me: Well, in the Bible. More than once.

Cordelia: Hmm. Maybe, maybe not, Mom.
