Appetite for Destruction

Today was a banner day by Cody's standards (except for the part where he woke up and still had a little sister. Last night during prayers, I said, "Let's thank God for Mommy and Daddy and Cody and Cordelia." He replied, "All done thanking God for Cordelia."). But I digress. First, it was garbage and recycling day. We went all the way to the end of the driveway today, so he could get a really close look as he bellowed, "Good morning garbage buddies! You're going to crush the garbage in the hopper and CRUSH IT!"

Then while I fed Cordy, he and JVL built towers, their favorite morning activity. Well, Cody's, at least. Daddy builds them and then Cody shouts, "Now it is time for Cody to EXCAVATE THE BIG TALL TOWER!"

A second later, "Please make another big tall tower Daddy!" He repeated this with me later on, only using the vacuum to excavate my architectural wonder.

But none of that is the exciting part. The biggest news of the day is that stupid Verizon was on our street to tear up everyone's lawns lay cable for stupid FIOS. So after breakfast, lots and lots of interesting trucks pulled up, and parked for the day. As did Cody. With, you'll notice, his own construction equipment. Just in case they needed help.

There were trucks. There were ditch-witches. There were jackhammers.

That's right folks...a dump truck. In. Cody's. Driveway. He just pulled up a chair, but was so mesmerized he missed when he tried to sit down, so just stayed on the floor.

Yep. That would be a ditch, where my front yard used to be. Poor Jonathan's carefully cultivated grass has been desecrated. There's now a giant metal plate forever stuck in my lawn. I hate Verizon even more than I used to, which is barely possible, and once again my decision to drop them for the iPhone has been vindicated. I can only say that my extreme annoyance was matched only by his extreme delight in the whole event.

I am so glad for these long blogs to catch up on after my trip. =D Cody looks completely fascinated, but I am sorry about the lawn. :(
