If You're Mary and You Know It...

Today Cordelia and I made our weekly trip to our moms' group at St. E's. Her first stop is always the administrative office, where she runs in to see Miss Christine, from whom she regularly steals religious objects. (Christine is the source of the Holy Family statue, for example.) There's a giant Mary statue in the office and Cordelia always runs up to the window and says, "Good morning Christine! Open the door! I want to see Mary! I am running to her!" Whereupon all the ladies ooh and aaah and Cordelia runs over to (gently) hug and kiss Mary. During this little routine, Father Meng popped in. Normally Cordelia is terrified of men with facial hair, but she must have had the peace of Christ with her, because she started grinning her winningest "I am so beautiful!" smile and said, "Hello! Thank you for praying for Baby Aidan!" He smiled and blessed her, and she pointed at the Blessed Mother and said confidently, "That's Mary!"

"I know!" he replied. She said, "She is cwapping! Mary is cwapping!" He looked vaguely disconcerted.

"CLapping!" I said hastily. "With an L. She says Mary is clapping instead of praying."

"OH!" he said, relieved. She then said, "Goodbye! I want to go see Jesus! I'm going to go give him a kiss!" Father Meng said, "Tell Him I'll be there soon." "Okay! I'll see you later!" she said cheerily, and raced out.

I have to play this over in my mind, because it was the one break in what has otherwise been 72 straight hours of whining, with all of her beautifully constructed sentences with perfect diction and syntax beginning with "I WANT!"

But that was all just the lead-up to this:

As she told her Granny, "I have a braid in my hair on my head!"

Ever since Cordelia started talking (and before), nearly every post about her makes me burst out in uncontrollable giggles. Also, that braid is awesome!
