Wedding Bells

In the next two months, we have two wonderful weddings to look forward to: first, Aunt Monika and Sean, and then Aunt Kelly and Mark. Cody couldn't be more excited. This is Very Big Stuff. He's particularly focused on his role as ring bearer in Aunt Kelly's wedding, and talks a lot about what that entails. When Kelly asked him if he'd like that Very Important Job, he eagerly accepted. She then told him it meant he could get all dressed up. His immediate response: "I would like to dress up! I would like to wear my Flash costume." We laughed until tears streamed down our faces.

Kelly later explained about his tuxedo. Here he is at his fitting this weekend.

All this talk of weddings and celebrating love has been on his mind. Yesterday he said to me, "Today Bidi is getting married! I am going to her wedding!"

Me: She is? That's so exciting! Whom will she marry?
CJP: She's going to marry Patches!
Me: That is wonderful! They have been friends for a long time. May I come to the wedding?
CJP: Yes. But it's far away. They're getting married down in Africa.
Me: Africa? Really? Well, that is far. Still, I'd like to be there.
CJP: The wedding will be on the Serengeti. (Actually, Mom, the Serengeti's going to be the bottom bunk.)
Me: Even better. I'm in.
CJP: Daddy can come too. But not Cordelia. This wedding is only for people who are not one year old or two years old.
Me: Well, I don't think that's very kind. Cordelia is part of our family, and she would probably also like to celebrate Bidi and Patches. If we are all going to Africa, we can't really leave her at home. Her feelings would really be hurt. And it would make me sad not to have all of us at Bidi's wedding.
CJP: Fine. She can come too, but she will have stay with Daddy on the house plane. Which is the top bunk.
Me: Okay. That's fair.

(There's been a bit of theme the past few days about activities which are only open to those three years old and up. : ) She's mostly good-natured about it, though. On pizza nights, Cody and Daddy make the dough and construct the pizzas, and she's perfectly happy to sit in her chair (right next to Cody) and color while she watches.

As long as she can just be near what's going on, she's totally content not to be doing it.
