Where to begin? I'll just go in medias res, because it's been way too long.
So, Cody is six. I'll say it again. Cody is six! I have no idea how that happened. I picked him up early from school and we went to lunch at our favorite little cafe in Occoquan, just the two of us.
Then we stopped for a treat at Starbucks, where Miss Kelly and Miss Maudie loaded him with love and sweets, and everyone in the store sang to him.
Then: present time! Cordelia got him the long-awaited Rainbow Loom. It seems like every childhood is marked by some sort of bracelet craze (for me, it was the Madonna bracelets). The rubber-band bracelets are ALL THE RAGE right now. The neighborhood kids come over every day and they all sit on the porch or in the swing set fort, which is chalked up with "RAINBOW LOOM CLUB" and make hundreds of pointless, loseable bracelets, which they adore. I'm all in favor — great for fine motor, and keeps them focused, and often not fighting.
On Easter weekend, Granny & Pop Pop came down, and we had a little family veggie BBQ and cake. A Frozen cake. That, too, is all the rage.
We got a giant Frozen balloon, too, which turned out to be kind of a mistake, because every time we pass it, Emma shouts, "ANNA! ELSA! BALLOON! KISS YOU" And so we do. Over. And over. And over.
Let it go, E.
I just love this one. Sorry, Mom.
I love these, too. Check out their dimples. Cheeks, elbows…ahhh. Emma is absolutely obsessed with Fiona. "FI-FI! Fi-FIIIIIII! KISS YOU!"
The cake was pretty good, by the way.
Emma very generously shared some with me, and Mary, too.
Happy birthday, my sweet six-year-old bear!

Six years of watching this boy develop has been at
warp speed. I love him so much and just marvel at his growth. No words, really
And his sisters! It is such a joy to be a granny and to laugh and love them to bits.
What a party! What a family!
Warp speed is accurate assessment. My little dude is such a DUDE. Can't wait to do slime experiments!
