Cody's nap was a little bit of a bust today. I was only about one-third of the way through the ironing pile when he appeared at the top of the stairs. Sigh. But then:
CJP: Mom, what are you doing?
Me, a little exasperated that my "break" is over: You are supposed to be in bed. What do you think I'm doing, buddy?
CJP: Are you ironing?
Me: Well, yes.
CJP: Are you ironing Daddy's shirts?
Me: Yes, I am.
CJP: And his pants?
Me: Yes, those too.
CJP [after a long pause]: Mom? You are the best. Thank you for ironing Daddy's shirts!
Me: Um, you're welcome?
CJP: Mom. I think you are making Daddy's life easier.
Me: Well, I hope so. That's the idea. Daddy makes my life easier when he gets up with you in the morning so I can wake up slowly. Or when he fills up the car with gas so I don't have to do it on the way to work. When you love people, you try to do little things to make their lives easier.
CJP: I know. But Mom. If you iron Daddy's shirts, then he can get dressed faster. And the faster he can get dressed, the faster he can get to work. And the faster he can get to work, the faster he can get home to make pizza with me. Because we are best buddies.
Me: Come on down.

Tears!! That is just the sweetest thing ever. EVER. See, the little things really do add up. :)
Oh, the sweetness of this! It is so beautiful to see that little logical mind at work. And these lessons in kindness are so important. What a great Mom you are!
